Lightworks
is an outreach program initiated to develop and promote practical
and spiritually motivated projects which bridge gaps in services
to those in need in the community.
Gathering
of Light is proud to offer a Starter Pack program. The mission
of this program is to provide basic household tools to homeless
families newly placed in permanent housing to bridge a gap in
services for them an d provide an opportunity for positive outreach
to the community.
How
many times do you reach for a fork, plate or coffee mug without
a thought? Imagine yourself finally in your new home without
any of these basic life tools. Did you know that this is the
experience of hundreds of homeless Long Island families? Despite
the financial assistance they receive, there are no allotted
funds for these items.
We
are committed to easing the lives of these families by closing
this gap and are asking other community organizations to contribute
to this effort to provide basic household items to Long Island
individuals and families.

Families
reestablishing themselves and depending upon public assistance
to do so are often faced with gaps in that assistance that
is beyond their current means to fill. While items may appear
to be trivial without them these families are jeopardizing
the quality of life they are trying so hard to attain.
To
supplement existing assistance programs by providing basic
household items to homeless families newly placed in permanent
housing. Our goal is to close the gap in services to change
the family's position of deficiency to be self-equipped,
self-sufficient and productive members of the community.

NSCH
The
Nassau/Suffolk Coalition for the Homeless has endorsed this program
as an important outreach project for the community. They have
announced the program to local shelters and then we contact the
shelters directly to coordinate distribution.
Support
We
are seeking leading Long Island organizations interested in assisting
members of their local community pursue productive lives. Supporting
the program, supports a practical solution to a real need and
a dignified beginning for families in their new homes.
